Laurie received her undergraduate and graduate school training from Boston University School of Nursing. In order to learn how to become a “real” nurse, Laurie worked briefly as a staff nurse on an inner city surgical ICU before pursuing her passion in psychiatry. Over the next twenty plus years, she worked as a staff nurse and head nurse on many psychiatric units. While writing The Comfort Garden: Tales from the Trauma Unit, she raised her three children, co-wrote musicals for her children's high schoo
