Thomas Chona is a Photovoltaic Technician who graduated from Seneca College. He has worked in the banking sector for over 20 years in Zambia and Canada in information technology. He worked for Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) and now is studying alternate energy systems at Lambton College. His mission is to improve the quality of life in the developing world by using renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind and bio energy. His background gives him the unique ability to clearly identify the fundamental development problems of rural communities and the technological methods to solving the problems. Thomas wants to use his knowledge, skills and experience to jump start development in the underdeveloped world through his involvement with GlobalLight Projects which focuses on assisting people in the developing world by means of applications of simple technology. GlobalLight Projects seeks not only to provide renewable energy installations but to contribute to communities in benefiting from technologies long taken for granted in the developed world. The technology presently exists and at reasonable prices for small scale installations which will make a huge difference in a community without negatively impacting the environment. The first project, completed in 2010 provided solar power to a school in Chona, a village of some 12,000 people in southern Zambia.
